Safe Sedation for Kids

Safe Sedation - Kids

Conscious Sedation Dentistry

We are dedicated to giving your child a positive dental experience through and through. When they leave our office, we want them to have a big and happy smile, not just because of our work, but also because they had a good time! We want your child to grow up enjoying their routine dental examinations because when they see us regularly, they are less likely to develop dental problems in the future.

Safe Sedation Options

We offer safe sedation options when they are necessary. We understand that sometimes the dental chair is just too much for a child and that they might need something extra to help calm their nerves. If your child is in need of restorative work like extractions or fillings, we have the proper anesthetics to ensure there will be little to no pain. All of our sedation options are safe, effective, and comfortable for your child.

  • Nitrous Oxide
  • Oral Conscious Sedation
  • General Anesthesia

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas, is a gas that is mixed with oxygen, which, once inhaled, promotes an extreme sense of relaxation. This is a good option for younger patients who are feeling very uneasy about sitting in the dental chair. They will remain conscious and will be able to answer questions from Dr. Blake during the treatment. Once we remove the nitrous oxide, your child will feel back to normal within minutes, and they can go about their day without any side effects.

Oral Conscious Sedation

This option is better suited for children who have already developed a bigger fear of the dentist. About 15 minutes before the procedure, our team will carefully administer a pill to your child. By appointment time, they’ll be feeling extremely relaxed and serene. They will remain conscious for the treatment, allowing them to answer any questions Dr. Blake might have. They will continue to feel the effects of oral conscious sedation for about an hour after the appointment is over.

General Anesthesia

General anesthesia will gently and safely put your child to ‘sleep’ for the treatment. They will be unconscious for the entirety of their appointment, and when they wake up, we’ll be through and they’ll be ready to go home! General anesthesia is typically meant for major procedures like tooth extractions. Our practice uses a group of medial doctors to safely administer general anesthesia.
